In some parts of Igbo land, the first son inherits everything owned by his father,

His younger siblings go to him when they need a portion of land to build their homes or farmland.

If any of his siblings die without a male child or a female son, the property goes back to the Okpara ( first son) or his family provided the Okpare has an heir himself.

In recent times, fathers prefer to share their properties by themselves with all their sons before they join their ancestors.

This is to avoid greed and loggerheads amongst siblings.
