In a recent report by The Nigerian Tribune, Sheikh Taofeeq Akeugbagold, the President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Preachers in the South West, has made a profound statement regarding his trust and camaraderie with individuals of different religious backgrounds, particularly highlighting his Chief Driver, who is of the Christian faith.
Sheikh Akeugbagold emphasized the paramount need for nurturing peace and understanding within the Nigerian society, stressing the significance of mutual respect among adherents of various faiths. Drawing inspiration from Islamic teachings, he referenced the Quran’s injunction against disparaging followers of other religions, advocating for a culture of tolerance and empathy among Nigerians.
In an interview with Tribune, Sheikh Akeugbagold articulated his perspective, stating, “Nigeria is our land, and we should strive to coexist in peace, respecting all religions. The Quran admonishes against abusing those who worship other gods. If God has the power to unify the world under one religion, why do we engage in conflict?”
He added: ” What is the essence of the day of resurrection if we are here fighting ourselves? Why can’t you let Allah judge? Humanity comes before religion.”
