Shubman Gill, an Indian hitter, scored an innings of a lifetime on Day 4 of the fourth Test against England in Ranchi, helping his team not only win by five wickets but also take the series 3-1 with one match to spare.
Gill struck 52 runs off 124 balls and was undefeated at the finish to help the hosts over the line.
His combination of 72 with Dhruv Jurel was critical as India was in grave trouble at 120/5, needing 192 to win.

Gill’s place in the Indian Test team was under scrutiny heading into the series.
However, a spectacular century in Visakhapatnam, a superb 91 in Rajkot, and a tenacious 52 in Ranchi have likely turned his Test career around.

Gill looked impressive in the first innings before being caught in front by Shoaib Bashir.
However, in the second essay, the right-hander was ready to utilize his feet against the off-spinner, which paid off handsomely.
Gill’s combination with Dhruv Jurel, who scored 39, will instill great confidence in the duo given the strain under which they performed.
Jurel also struck a spectacular 90 in the first innings, earning him the Player of the Match title.
