On a tired track at Ranchi, India, Chasing 192 got off to a good start, hitting 84/0, but the middle-order broke, leaving them at 120/5. Shubman Gill (52*) and Dhruv Jurel (39*) batted calmly through the storm, enabling India to reach the goal without suffering any further losses.

Shubman Gill was seen receiving a warm hug from Rahul Dravid following the victory as a thank you for holding the wicket for the team to the very end. It was particularly noteworthy because Gill was facing criticism before the series began and there were several doubts regarding his suitability for Test XI.
But team management stuck with him at number three, and Gill rewarded their belief with crucial performances in the final three Test matches of the series.

Shubman Gill stated that their batting unit was under strain in the chase following the middle-order collapse in remarks made following the end of the fourth Test. He claimed that they were able to get through the ordeal and make it home safely by exercising patience and focusing on rotating the strike.

“We were under pressure, but I think we had a good start by our openers,” Shubman Gill stated. Sometimes you have to assess the circumstance and adjust your game accordingly. Their bowlers kept the boundaries well-protected and bowled clean lines. We need to be patient and grab the singles on a wicket like this. Try to take advantage of any lost delivery that they make.”

After four Test matches in the series, Gill has amassed 342 runs at an average of 48.86, placing him second in the run-scoring standings after Yashasvi Jaiswal.
