A 106-year-old Okuama woman, Madam Esther Obarogheruo, displaced with other residents from the community following the Nigerian Army soldier’s ongoing siege on it, has sent a heartfelt plea to the Delta State government and local authorities for help in their current situation, according to Vanguard.
The siege on Okuama followed the March 14 gruesome murder of 17 soldiers by hoodlums in the community’s riverside.
The report says the centenarian, spoke to public enlightenment officers at Okwagbe in Ughelli South. According to her, the trouble started with the eruption of pandemonium in the community following the killing of three Okuama youths who visited their mother in Okoloba community in Bomadi Local Government Area.
She added that March 14 murder of soldiers in the community aggravated the crisis.
The centenarian, however, said that it was soldiers, along with her daughters, who rescued her from Okuama because of her age.
In her narration, she said soldiers had held her daughter, Mary, who was coming see her at home. When Mary told the soldiers she was going to see her elderly mother, they brought her (Mary) to her. They, however, asked both of them to leave Okuama immediately.
She said in part:
“In the rush, we could not take anything from the house. They carried us out on a motorcycle. Amid the tension and destruction, nothing was as important as life.
“This is how my daughter and I were moved from one village to another until we got to Okwagbe, my maternal village. Right now, we have nothing to live on. We have lost everything we worked for over the years.
The centenarian, therefore, appealed to authorities to come to their aid.
