Okuama Massacre: Soldier Narrates How 17 Colleagues Were Killed

A soldier who was allegedly a member of the reinforcement team that was mobilised to Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State in the wake of the Killing of 17 others has explained how the incident transpired. He also talked about some of what later happened in the course of military operation in the community.

According to Vanguard, he said that when the slain soldiers and their colleagues arrived at Okuama Community, they told the locals that they were there for peace talks; and the community leaders requested them to put down their weapons if they were sincere about what they said. Unfortunately, when they obliged, the youths suddenly descended on them by butchering them from every angle.

When he was asked about the source of how the incident had happened, the soldier said that it was based on what he and his colleagues gathered from a suspect whom they arrested in the community.

Speaking further, the soldier said that in the process of burning houses which he said were stained with blood, they discovered six shrines. He pointed out that one of the shrines refused to burn, until an Hausa colleague of his did what he could not comprehend.
