Nyesom Wike: After All Mrs Odili Achieved In The Supreme Court You Call Her One Woman-Senator Maeba
Senator Lee Maeba, a prominent figure within the PDP, recently expressed concerns regarding the language used by former Governor Nyesom Wike in reference to former Governor Peter Odili and his wife, Justice Mary Odili. Maeba stressed the significance of maintaining respect and decorum in public discourse, particularly when addressing individuals who have made substantial contributions to society. In a video shared on YouTube by Arise TV, Maeba highlighted Wike’s remarks about Peter Odili and Mary Odili, noting that describing them merely as “one man” and “one woman” respectively fails to acknowledge their significant achievements.
Maeba emphasized the importance of recognizing the accomplishments of individuals like Peter Odili and Mary Odili, citing Peter Odili’s establishment of a cardiovascular hospital and Mary Odili’s distinguished career in the Supreme Court. He expressed dismay at Wike’s choice of language, asserting that it reflects a lack of respect for elders and individuals who have positively impacted society. According to Maeba, such disrespectful language undermines the principles of decorum and threatens to escalate tensions within the state.
Maeba condemned Wike’s description of Peter Odili and Mary Odili, arguing that it is disrespectful to reduce their identities to generic labels like “one man” and “one woman.” He reiterated the importance of showing reverence towards elders and individuals who have contributed significantly to the betterment of society. Maeba emphasized his personal commitment to upholding respect for elders and urged others to adhere to similar principles of decorum in public discourse.
The senator highlighted the potential consequences of Wike’s language, suggesting that it could exacerbate existing tensions within the state. Maeba emphasized the need for leaders to set a positive example by engaging in respectful and dignified communication, particularly when discussing individuals of elder statesmanship and notable achievements.
He said: “How can a former governor of Rivers go on air and refer to Peter Odili as he built a cardiovascular hospital and named it after one man, and then Mrs Odili, after all she achieved in the Supreme Court you call her one woman. We don’t disrespect our elders, as you see me I will not disrespect my elders, even a younger person. We should have decorum, this issue is trying to blow up the state”.
