Renowned statesman and political leader, Chief Nduese Essien, hails from the Eket local government area of Akwa Ibom State has stated that during his term, Nigeria experienced substantial progress in combating corruption within the nation. He said that One of the significant achievements was the enhancement of Nigeria’s position in the Corruption Perception Index. Nigeria moved from being the second-most corrupt country to the 121st position out of 180 countries. He emphasized that this was a noteworthy improvement and demonstrated the influence of strong leadership in the anti-corruption campaign.
He further acknowledged that Nuhu Ribadu, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was an exceptional leader in the fight against corruption. Ribadu was highly esteemed and sought-after globally for his expertise in combating corruption. His efforts, along with those of his team, were crucial in bringing about the significant change witnessed in Nigeria’s ranking.
According to Vanguard, Essien said, “That’s why Nigeria moved from the second most corrupt country to the level of 121 out of 180. That was a significant improvement.
That really showed that because of the people leading the anti-corruption crusade, we were able to record achievements. Let me say it here: Nuhu Ribadu was an exceptional leader of the anti-corruption commission. In fact, he was world-renowned; he was going to various countries and giving lectures, and other countries were inviting him to come and tell them how he was able to move the level of corruption to that level then.”
