Harry Maguire has been ruled out of Manchester United’s trip to Crystal Palace on Monday night and is expected to be sidelined for around three weeks with a muscle injury
Manchester United have been dealt a fresh defensive injury blow ahead of their Premier League clash with Arsenal at the weekend.
The Gunners will make the trip to Old Trafford on Sunday, with the match against Erik ten Hag’s side one of two fixtures remaining for the north Londoners. Man United face Crystal Palace first on Monday night, however, and ahead of the game announced Harry Maguire will be sidelined for around three weeks with a muscle injury.
The Red Devils confirmed the setback, which was sustained in training, ruling the centre-back out of Monday’s clash against Crystal Palace and potentially the final three Premier League games against Arsenal, Newcastle and Brighton. There are no concerns over Maguire’s availability for England at next month’s European Championship and he could return for the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25.
This latest injury issue presents another selection headache for United manager Ten Hag, who was already forced to deploy midfielder Casemiro in central defence during last weekend’s 1-1 stalemate with Burnley. United’s injury list had already reached double figures before Maguire’s problem, but Ten Hag hinted on Thursday that Jonny Evans might be fit for the trip to Selhurst Park. However, Victor Lindelof (hamstring), Lisandro Martinez (calf) and Raphael Varane (muscle) will definitely miss out.
“For over 10 years I am managing, I never had this experience,” Ten Hag said speaking before Maguire’s setback. “So huge, so many injury issues, so I trust all my experience, it can happen once in 10 years. Hopefully now I have to wait another 10 to have so many injuries to deal with.”
