If we want Nigeria to be one, then the South East must have their turn, “They’re part of Nigeria” – Ayo Adebanjo.

In a recent statement, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, the head of Afenifere, has voices for a fair sharing of power among all regions in Nigeria, underlining the need for the Southeast to have a turn in the country’s leadership, as reported by The Sun.

He cites Afenifere’s endorsement of Peter Obi and underlines the importance transfer of power and more just federalism for Nigeria’s unity, drawing upon the principle of power rotation among regions championed by Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

“Yar’adua came after that Jonathan came. After Jonathan, Buhari, and after Buhari the thing returned to the south. Must it go to the South West? Or must it go to the South-South? Is the South East not part of Nigeria? If we want Nigeria to be one, then the South East must have their turn. Go and read the statement of Afenifere in supporting Peter Obi for president in the last election. I don’t know Obi from Adam. It is the principle Awolowo gave us that if you want Nigeria to be united, there must be devolution of power. The federalism we’re going to have, we’re going to share it in power rotation,” Chief Adebanjo stated.
