Boko Haram: When we say we Don’t want to marry them they will do bad things to us or sell us -Victim

Jummai Mutah, one of the Chibok schoolgirls who was rescued from Boko Haram captivity shared why some of the schoolgirls agreed to get married to their abductors

In a video recently shared on YouTube by Channels TV, Mutah said girls who refused to get married to the Boko Haram men were enslaved or given harsh punishment. She revealed that Boko Haram would intimidate and sell girls who resisted marriage. She said consequently, some girls driven by fear, agreed to marry the insurgents while others opted to endure the consequences of refusing to marry them.

In Mutah’s words: “When we say we don’t want to marry them, they will sell us or do bad things to us. So from there, some girls became afraid and told themselves it is better they get married to them (Boko Haram) than to do the punishment but some prefer to do the punishment”.
