Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly abducted dozens of females internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ngala, the headquarters of Gambarou Ngala in Borno State, according to report.
The report said a security source, who spoke to the newspaper’s correspondent in confidence, disclosed, “What we heard is that around 113″ were abducted.”
Meanwhile, a source from the Babban Sansani IDP camp, told the newspaper that the incident occurred last Sunday as the women went into the bushes to fetch firewood.
The source said:
“They were surrounded by the insurgents in Bula Kunte bush in the western part of Ngala town. They freed the old-aged and entered the bush with 319 abled young girls and some young boys.”
The source added that three of the girls, who escaped from their abductors and returned to Ngala, disclosed that the terrorists took them to a bush close to Bukar-Mairam village in Chad Republic.
The girls reportedly escaped in the night after their abductors fell asleep. They trekked for two days to return to Ngala.
The majority of the abducted girls were from Babban Sansani camp while some others were from Zulum and Arabic camps.
The girls went into the bushes to fetch firewood to sell to make some money to augment their food, which is said to be inadequate for them, the source said.
Another security source said they always warned the IDPs not to go to some areas in the bush for fear of attack, admitting, however, that economic pressure forces them to disregard the warning.
The source said, “A small measure of corn flour is sold at N2,200. Where can they get the money to buy? We can’t stop them if we can’t feed them.”
