Impeachment: Shaibu writes CJN, APC members warn against ex-deputy gov’s return
The impeached Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has written to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, to obtain a complaint form to file a formal petition against the Chief Judge of Edo, Justice Daniel Okungbowa.
Shaibu was impeached on Monday by the state House of Assembly, following the adoption of the report of a seven-man panel set up by the Chief Judge to probe him for alleged perjury and leaking the government’s secrets.
The panel concluded its probe last Friday after adjourning twice for Shaibu to appear for his defence, without the ex-deputy governor showing up.
His lawyer, Prof Oladoyin Awoyale (SAN), who attended the panel’s inaugural sitting last Wednesday, had excused himself in the middle of the hearing after the panel refused his prayer to suspend the proceedings pending the outcome of a lawsuit in Abuja.

170 currency racketeers arrested, 23 jailed in one month – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has secured the conviction of 23 illegal Bureau De Change operators and naira racketeers within the last month, as the commission arrested and arraigned 170 for similar offences.
The EFCC Special Task Force also arrested 116 illegal BDC operators, currency racketeers in Enugu State during a massive clampdown.
During the Enugu clampdown, the EFCC recovered N110.7m, $8,368.00, £145.00, €2,725; 900 South African Rand; 32,000.00 CFA; 100 Turkiya; and 500 Bank Mozambique currencies.
The EFCC also revealed that the International Criminal Police Organisation, the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation, the governments of the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, and Kenya, are assisting in the extradition of a Binance Holding Limited’s executive, Nadeem Anjarwalla over an ongoing alleged $35,400,000 money laundering probe.

Fire razes 14 Lagos market buildings, four structures collapse

No fewer than 14 buildings were gutted by fire on Tuesday in Dosumu Market in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.
The Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Authority, Ibrahim Farinloye, who confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Tuesday, said four buildings out of the 14 had collapsed as of press time.
Farinloye, who blamed the cause of the fire on the careless refuelling of a generator in the penthouse of one of the buildings, decried the difficulty faced by emergency responders in accessing some of the affected areas.
“As of now, four buildings have collapsed while 14 buildings were affected by the fire. We had challenges with water, but we were able to sort that out by contacting the Nigeria Port Authority.
