Alleged N80.2bn Fraud: EFCC To Arraign Yahaya Bello Thursday

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said it will on Thursday, April 18, 2024, arraign a former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
Earlier, the EFCC was granted a warrant of arrest by a Federal High Court in Abuja to apprehend the embattled former governor.
The warrant was issued following an ex parte motion filed by the EFCC.
Bello will be arraigned before Justice Emeka Nwite alongside three other suspects, Ali Bello, Dauda 6 Abdulsalam Hudu on 19 counts bordering on money laundering to the tune of N80,246,470,088.88.
The spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, revealed the development in a press statement on Wednesday.

LASG Arrests 12 Bridge Squatters

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps, popularly known as KAI, has arrested no fewer than 12 persons for squatting on pedestrian bridges.
The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab , said this on Wednesday in a post on X.
Wahab wrote, “The operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps @LAGESCOfficial today conducted clearance operations on the pedestrian bridges at Ikate Elegushi and Agungi along Ajah. Twelve miscreants were arrested for sleeping on the bridge and inside the opening under the bridge at Ikate Elegushi. The pedestrian bridge has been cleaned by @Lawma_gov and it is safe for use.”
Owerri, Okigwe Zones Will Lock Horns For 2027 Gov Election – Nwachukwu

An Imo-based politician and indigene of Umuokpaa Egbelu autonomous community in Owerri North Local Government Area of the state, Mike Nwachukwu, has said that the 2027 governorship contest in the state will be between Owerri – Imo East – and Okigwe – Imo North – geo-political zones of the state.
Consequently, Nwachukwu admonished the two senatorial zones to jostle for the governorship position with ease by fielding candidates who would be accepted by the Imo people and the electorate.
Nwachukwu stated this in an open letter he officially addressed to the chairman of the state Council of Elders, His Royal Highness Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, a copy of which he made available to South-East PUNCH.
We’ll No Longer Tolerate Obstruction Of Our Operations — EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned members of the public against obstruction of its operations saying it is a “criminal offence to obstruct its officers from carrying out their lawful duties”.
This comes on the heels of media reports that embattled former Kogi governor Yahaya Bello was whisked away from his Abuja residence by his successor, Governor Usman Ododo following attempts by the commission to arrest and prosecute for alleged N80.2bn money laundering.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale in a statement Wednesday night, said Section 38(2)(a(b) of the EFCC Establishment Act makes it an offence to prevent officers of the Commission from carrying out their lawful duties. Culprits risk a jail term of not less than five years.
