After the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) attempted to arrest Mr. Ola Olukayode at his Abuja residence earlier today, the immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has urged President Bola Tinubu to caution the commission and its chairman for allegedly disobeying court orders.
The former governor of Kogi State made it plain throughout his speech that Nigeria is not a lawless country, warning that chaos will ensue if law enforcement ignores the rule of law. This revelation was allegedly made by the ex-Kogi State in a statement issued in Abuja by his media assistant Onogwu Muhammed, as reported by Sahara Reporters. “Nigeria is not a lawless country,” the statement reads in part. A major worry is the EFCC’s purported refusal to comply with court rulings.
“We understand that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is fully committed to upholding the rule of law. However, we can state categorically that the EFCC leadership may have encouraged desperate politicians to use the agency as a weapon to settle scores, disregarding the impact on its credibility and Nigeria’s reputation.” Aside from that, he said that the EFCC’s move was poor.
He continued by saying that the EFCC’s attempt to have him arrested was a major setback in the battle against corruption. You may remember that today the EFCC attempted to apprehend Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State. At around 9:30 in the morning, EFCC agents allegedly showed up at Mr. Bello’s apartment in Wuse Zone 4 with the intent of arresting him.
