A video of popular Nigerian clergyman, Paul Eneche, calling out a Police woman Anyim Vera for allegedly sharing a false testimony has gone viral on social media, sparking a heated debate among netizens.

 

The incident occurred during a church service at Eneche’s church in Abuja, where the woman in question was on the altar to share her testimony of how God made her the “only graduate in her family.” However, the cleric became suspicious of her testimony due to her command of English and proceeded to question her further.

When asked about the degree she graduated with, the lady responded, “Law.” Eneche then inquired about the specific type of Law degree, to which she replied, “B.Sc in Law.” Unsatisfied with her response, the cleric asked the lady to leave the altar and warned his congregation against lying about testimonies.

The video has since sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some users defending the woman and others supporting the pastor’s actions.

Reacting to the video, a lady identified as Deborah Tolu-Kolawole, on her X handle pointed out that the testifier is a graduate of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and even works as a police officer.

 

According to the “Comprehensive Graduate List For 2024” shared by Deborah, sighted by TheNigerialawyer, Anyim Veronica Nnenna (Testifier’s name) appeared on the list with the Matric Number, NOU133971176.

Many users suggested that the woman may have experienced stage fright or struggled with English, but her facial expressions indicated sincerity in her testimony.

They, therefore, called for Pastor Eneche to issue a public apology for embarrassing her, especially if the church had verified the testimony beforehand.

On the other hand, some users supported the pastor’s actions, arguing that as a graduate, the woman should have been able to accurately state the title of her degree. They suggested that she could have written down her testimony to avoid any confusion or embarrassment.

The incident has also raised questions about the church’s handling of the situation, with some users expressing disappointment in the leadership’s approach. They argued that even if the pastor suspected dishonesty, there are more dignified ways to address such matters without causing public shame to an adult.

As the debate continues online, many are calling for a resolution and a public apology from the church to the woman in question.
