Joseph Edozien Early Life and Education

Joseph Edozien was born on July 28, 1925, in Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria. He had his primary education at the Catholic School in Warri before he proceeded to Christ the King’s College, Onitsha for his secondary school.

Joseph Edozien graduated from the higher college, Yaba. He went to Achimota School, Accra, Ghana. He also holds a BSc in Physiology from the National University of Ireland. He also holds an MSc in Physiology from the same university.

Joseph Edozien Career

Joseph Edozien began his career as a lecturer in Clinical Biochemistry at Middlesex Hospital Medical School, London. In 1952, he relocated to Nigeria after he was appointed as a Senior Lecturer in Chemical Pathology at the University of Ibadan. His groundbreaking research in nutrition helped win it a reputation as a rising academic Centre.

In 1961, Joseph Edozien was appointed as a professor and he became the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in 1962. During the civic he had to flee to France where he became a refugee. Later on, he became a professor of Nutrition at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MA.

In 1971, Joseph Edozien became a professor and head of the Department of Nutrition at the University of North Carolina. He moved back to Nigeria in 1990 and was appointed as the Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research. He was also the chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

Joseph Edozien was installed as the 13th Asagba of Asaba. Since then, he has been an important figure in modern-day Nigerian affairs.
