The people of Ivite Awkuzu in Oyi Local Government Area have expressed appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the construction of the six kilometers Awkuzu -Umunya road.
ABS reports that this was made known by members of Ivite Awkuzu Care-taker Committee who said they cannot keep quiet; considering the weight of what the Governor has done for them.
The road from Mkpu John Ogwo to Ogbo Enugu-Onitsha express road has been a nightmare to Ndi Ivite Awkuzu because of the flood-prone nature of the road.
Speaking on the development, one of the interim leaders of Ivite Awkuzu, Pastor Cyril Jideofor, said that Governor Soludo is a servant leader who listens to the yearnings of the people; as he said that they do not go home whenever it rains for fear of being swept by the flood, praying God to continue to give the Governor the enablement to sustain his drive.
On her part, another member of the interim leadership of Ivite Awkuzu, Pastor Favour Ofiaeli, thanked Governor Soludo for the love he has shown them with that singular act; as she said that she has brought solution to their life-long problem on that road.
She also appealed to the Governor to consider constructing the Mkpu John Ogwo to Nkwo Awkuzu road, which she said is five hundred meters, noting that if allowed to remain the way it is presently, the road will pose a serious threat to the newly asphalted Awkuzu -Umunya road, and will affect its life span. The Youth leader of the village, Comrade Celestine Ubammadu, who expressed profound gratitude to the Governor for remembering them, promised that they will appreciate him more during his re-election bid.
In his reaction, the state Commissioner for Works, Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma, said that the two-point five kilometers road was not on the plan originally; but was added after consideration, noting that the road was not awarded with stone base; but soil cement stabilisation.
Engineer Okoma added that the contractor handling the project sometime last week cut some parts of the road which was affected by rainfall, and has also asphalted the affected areas this week.
