It’s no longer news that the Lagos State Government has given Landmark CEO, Paul Onwuanibe, 7 days to evacuate the $200 million multi-million-dollar beach resort.
Paul Onwuanibe, CEO of Landmark Beach Resorts, has appealed to the Lagos State Government (LASG) to consider rerouting only 1.5km of the 700km coastal highway currently under construction to avoid the destruction of the $200 million Landmark Resort, as his beach was never affected in the initial map of the coastal highway.
Onwuanibe revealed that he acquired the land in 2007, predating the plans for the coastal highway. However, he has reportedly been given a mere 7 days to evacuate the multi-million-dollar beach resort. ‘There’s nothing I can do with 7 days, where will I start to pick things from here? I only came back to Nigeria to invest in this, to create job opportunities for Nigeria. If they decide to demolish it, I will just go back to the USA.’
The Landmark ecosystem accommodates over 80 businesses and annually hosts approximately 3 million visitors, including tourists and members of the diaspora. Employing directly 4000 Nigerians and indirectly supporting 12,000 jobs, Landmark is a significant contributor to the local economy.
In one of the pictures below, there’s an image with green and yellow lines. The yellow line was the original plan of the coastal highway, which didn’t affect Landmark Beach and Resort. However, the Lagos state/Federal government decided to shift it to the green line, thus affecting his business.
