Ihuokpara and Nkerefi are two different towns in Nkanu of Enugu state that are forbidden from intermarrying because of the inter-communal war that occurred in the past.

Till date, the both Communities still claim victims from their opponents.

The cause of their communal war is not clear as neither Ihuokpara nor Nkerefi agrees to has caused the rift between the two.

Ihuokpara claims that their traders went to Nkerefi to sell their wares, but unfortunately they were kill.ed.

In a bid to retaliate, the elders of Ihuokpara met with the the Eze mmuo.

They cooked a charm,

They charm went in form of an old woman to the Nkerefi market square.

The old woman sold delicious okpa to the Nkerefe people.

After that day, many people began to fall ill and di.e.

The Nkerefi elders made enquiries and it was revealed what the Ihuokpara people had done.

A battle line was drawn, and the two communities had an inter-communal war that claimed many lives.

After the war, The both communities swore to remain ene.mies and never to inter-marry anymore.
