“African culture has just grown big. When I was in Alabama in school, it wasn’t a proud thing to be a Nigerian because there was nothing good from Nigeria at that time. But now we have ambassadors from Nigeria who are changing the narrative and everyone now wants to be or have something to do with Nigeria. It’s not only in music but in fashion, and movies. There was a time Nigerian movies were watched all over Africa. Before I signed my first international record deal with Sony Music, I was already not only in Africa but everywhere in the world. And the EP I dropped under Sony Music was a flôp but I had to sacrifîce that for the next generation. What P-Square, 2Face, and Dbanj sacrîficed for us is what we’re enjoying now. And what we’re doing now will also pave the way for next generation and they have to do more because we already laid the foundation. That’s evolution.” Davido

Like it or not, those who come before you paved the way for you
