Asue Ighodalo was born on July 19, 1959 in Nigeria. He comes from a family of professionals and scholars. His father was a lawyer and his mother was a teacher. Asue Ighodalo is from Okaigben, Ewohimi, Esan South East LG, Edo State.
Asue Ighodalo went to King’s College, Lagos, for his secondary education. He was a brilliant student who won many prizes and awards. He also developed an interest in economics and law. Asue Ighodalo graduated from King’s College in 1977.
He then studied Economics at the University of Ibadan, where he obtained his B.Sc degree in 1981. He also served as the president of the Economics Students Association.
He continued his education at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where he earned his LL.B degree in 1984. He was a member of the LSE Lawyers’ Group and participated in various academic activities.
He returned to Nigeria and attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos. He passed the bar exam and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1985. Asue Ighodalo also received a Doctor of Science in Economics Honoris Causa from Edo State University.

Asue Ighodalo is married to Ifeyinwa, a furniture manufacturer and interior designer. They have a daughter, Omoehi, an entrepreneur. They tied the knot in 1984.
