After successfully solving the power generation and distribution problem in Aba, the governor is now focusing his efforts on the remaining eight local governments in the state, starting with Umuahia, the state capital.

Governor Otti recently visited the Alaoji Power Generating Plant in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area to work towards achieving uninterrupted power supply in the entire state. The Alaoji Power Plant is a 1,074MW combined cycle gas turbine project, developed in multiple phases. It currently has four gas turbines and is undergoing work to add two steam turbines, bringing the total capacity to 1,074MW.

During his visit, Governor Otti expressed his commitment to supporting the execution of the Alaoji Power project and acknowledged its potential for economic, social, and infrastructural development in Abia State and Nigeria. He acknowledged that the plant is currently not generating any power due to gas issues but expressed confidence that these challenges will be resolved soon. The governor also emphasized the need to expand the plant’s capacity and ensure the power generated is transmitted to Umuahia and distributed through the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.

To facilitate the smooth progress of the project, Governor Otti instructed the Mayor of Ugwunagbo LGA to collaborate with the Commissioner for Works to provide easier access to the site, enabling the transportation of materials and equipment. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the transmission of power to areas in need, especially Umuahia and the other eight local governments not covered by the Geometric Power Plant.

Sir Emeka Offor, Chairman of Chrome Group, the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contractor to the plant, commended the collaboration between the public and private sectors in driving sustainable development. He expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for his support and commitment to the project and highlighted the potential benefits for the people of Abia State, including uninterrupted power supply and employment opportunities.

This project is a significant step towards achieving stable electricity in Abia State under Governor Otti’s leadership. The collaboration between the government and private sector ensures the project’s success, and with the continued support of the government, the people of Abia State will soon enjoy the benefits of reliable power supply.
