A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) group has frowned at the $2 million bribe allegedly given to the party’s National Executive Committee and House of Representatives members by the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike.
The group in a statement on Monday said the alleged inducement was meant to pass a vote of confidence on the acting National Chairman of the party, Umar Damagun.
Recall that a group of PDP lawmakers alongside stakeholders have been clamouring for reform of the party including the resignation of the acting chairman to enable North Central assume the position zoned to them and commencement of disciplinary action against those fighting the party.
However, there is pro- Damagun PDP lawmakers led by the Minority Leader, Hon. Kingsley Chinda who are planning to pass a vote of confidence on the chairman despite his alleged role in the party’s misfortune. It was gathered that a meeting of the PDP caucus will hold on Tuesday ahead of National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party on Thursday.
On Sunday, Jackson used an X user in separate tweets titled, “Wike sharing $30K each to NEC members to keep current PDP executives for Tinubu ahead of 2027…alleged that “Nyesom Wike, is sharing $30k each to members of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to pass a vote of confidence on the current leadership of the Party headed by Umar Damagum as Chairman and Sam Anyanwu as Secretary.
Wike and the duo of Damagun and Anyanwu are being used by the All Progressive Congress, APC, to destroy the PDP, weaken it capacity for effective opposition for an easy way for Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections. A NEC meeting of the party is scheduled for Thursday April 18, 2024. The meeting would determine the fate of the already weakened Political Party.”
In another tweet, titled “Wike’s Cash Gifts Tear PDP Apart”, he claimed that Nyesom Wike’s cash gifts for house purchase for the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Umar Damagun and Secretary, Sam Anyanwu, have set tongues wagging and causing trouble ahead of the Party’s NEC meeting on Thursday. Wike allegedly bought a house for Damagun for N350 million and Anyanwu for N250 million in Abuja.
“He further gave them $2 million to share to effect changes to Rivers PDP caretaker list last week. Wike’s antics have divided the ailing opposition party and rendered it a toothless opposition party. He has alo promised to pay all PDP Staff outstanding Housing loans and other benefits , the reason a staff of PDP, Mrs Chinwe Nnorom , Director of Publicity is mobilising staff to support Damagun.”
Reacting to these claims, the pro-PDP group known as PDP Integrity and Reform Movement, wondered why the PDP Governors are silent on this.
In a statement signed by Comrade Sani Abu Abubakar, the group condemned the PDP Governors silence, lamented that Tinubu’s forces are moving to take over PDP on Tuesday with Damagun retaining his position at chairman of the party.
Tagging the PDP Governors as Asiwaju boys, they further lamented that the once powerful party, has polarised members against each other further worsening its crisis.
They therefore called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to look into the said allegations.
