William Paul Troost-Ekong, born on September 1, 1993, is a professional footballer known for his role as a centre-back. He currently plays for Super League Greece club PAOK and represents the Nigeria national team.

 

Born in the Netherlands to a mixed Dutch and Nigerian family, Troost-Ekong had the option to play for either the Netherlands or Nigeria at the international level. He opted to represent Nigeria and made his debut for the national team in 2015. Since then, he has earned more than 60 caps for Nigeria.

 

Career

Troost-Ekong attended Hockerill Anglo-European College in Bishop’s Stortford, England, for secondary school. He played football at the youth level for Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur in England. Troost-Ekong started his senior career in the Netherlands with FC Groningen and FC Dordrecht.

 

After being linked with transfers abroad, including to Celtic, he joined Belgian club KAA Gent in July 2015. He was then loaned out to Norwegian club FK Haugesund.

 

In July 2017, Troost-Ekong signed for Turkish Süper Lig club Bursaspor. Later, on August 17, 2018, he moved to Italian Serie A club Udinese. During his time there, he made significant contributions, including memorable victories against AC Milan and Juventus.

In September 2020, Troost-Ekong signed a five-year contract with EFL Championship side Watford, scoring his first goal for the club in November 2020 against Coventry City.
