The immediate past minister of Labour and Productivity, Senator Chris Nwabueze Ngige on Tuesday gave reasons he intentionally stayed off politics.
Senator Ngige who is also the former Governor of Anambra State, made this known in Enugu during the Night of Tribute of late Barr. Godfrey Oraegbunam Nwachukwu at the Holy Trinity Church, Independence Layout, Enugu.
Senator Ngige who refused to speak on political questions fielded by journalists, said that he will continue to stay off politics until he has rested enough.
On the late Nwachukwu, Ngige said that the late nonagenarian was one of the persons who molded his character and pointed the way for him to follow.
“Godfrey is my brother-in-law. He is married to my immediate elder sister, Lady Benedit. I have known him since 1969. He participated and helped in molding my life journey and pathway to higher education. He kept advising me for a long time. He quarrelled with me when I decided to leave school.
“He is a man of many parts, a very simple man, a man who stands for the truth. And you know in this society, standing for the truth, you can be misunderstood. He was good in practical life and good also in deciding certain policies. He lived an exemplary life. He was disciplined and industrious life.
“So, for us it’s a huge loss. He was a very family man who molded his children well. Three of them are medical doctors. One is a Professor, another a Cardiologist in Texas. He is a man who lived a good life and got to 90 before he died. 90 is a good age,” he said.
Earlier in a homily, Rev. Fr. Basel Okeke disclosed that what matters in a man’s journey on earth is to die in faith with Christ, adding that Barr. Nwachukwu lived a life of emulation and died in Christ.
While praising God for sustaining Nwachukwu to attain 90 years, lamented that Nigerians die prematurely because of the alarming hardship in the country.
“What matters in a man’s journey on earth is to die in faith with Christ not the number of temptation you pass through here on Earth because temptation on Earth is like purifying fire.
“Because of what we suffer in our country, we do die at the age of 30, so, anybody at the age of 75 should start celebrating his/her life and we thank God for allowing our brother to reach 90 before he was called to glory,” he said.
