The representative from Imo State’s Ideato North/South Federal Constituency, Honourable Ikenga Ugochinyere, has addressed the latest ruling from the Abuja Appeal Court.
A PDP national executive committee meeting can now include Celestine Omehia, a former governor of Rivers State, and Uche Secondus, the party’s previous chairman, according to the court. A court order was initiated by the side of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who opposed the engagement of these PDP politicians, based on a finding from a Rivers High Court; this ruling conflicts with that order.
The righteous Ikenga Ugochinyere expressed gratitude to the Court of Appeal for putting a stop to attempts to exclude authorized party members from the NEC meeting. He said those involved were acting in a desperate, immature manner and were trying to use the court system for their own political gain. The 2021 decision by a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt upheld Uche Secondus’s suspension from PDP national chairmanship.
Secondus is prohibited by an injunction from acting as the party’s national chairman, as imposed by the court. In order to prevent Secondus and other Rivers State PDP leaders from attending party gatherings leading up to the PDP NEC Meeting on April 5th, Titus Jones, a member of the Wike faction within the PDP, used an ex-parte application to get a court order.
It was only yesterday that the Rivers High Court was made aware of the appeal that Celestine Omehia, a former governor of Rivers State and PDP chairman, had filed. “The attempt by persons hobnobbing with the ruling All Progressives Congress to stop the former chairman of the party, Mr. Uche Secondus, the former Rivers state governor, Celestine Omehia, and other leaders of the party from attending the NEC of the party,” Hon.
Ugochinyere said, according to a Punch report. We are grateful to the Court of Appeal for putting an end to the political abracadabra that has been going on in an attempt to prevent legitimate party members from attending the NEC.
