Bayern Munich manager, Thomas Tuchel has blamed Kim Min-jae for aggressive defending in Real Madrid’s two goals in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final.
Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw between Bayern and Real took place at the Allianz Arena, with Vinicius Junior scoring twice for the visiting team.
The Brazilian winger was put under pressure by Kim before racing into space behind the center back and latching onto a through pass from Toni Kroos to score the first goal.
In a four-minute span in the second half, Bayern responded by turning the tie around with goals from Harry Kane and Leroy Sane.
Seven minutes from time, Kim was the cause of Real Madrid’s equalizer when the defender tripped over Rodrygo in the box, allowing Vinicius to score from the penalty spot.
In the post-match press conference, Tuchel stated that Kim had been ‘too greedy’ on both occasions, resulting in goals against Bayern.
“He made the first move too early against Vinicius in the first goal and got caught by Toni Kroos’ pass, he speculated and was too aggressive,” Tuchel said, according to Bild as reported by Daily Mail.
“In the second goal, unfortunately it was another mistake.
“We were five against two, we had the numbers. There was no need to defend that aggressively against Rodrygo. The moment Eric was about to help, he [Kim] brought him [Rodrygo] down.
“Unfortunately, with their quality, these mistakes get punished. But well, it happens. We have to move on.”
After joining the Bundesliga giants for an alleged £42 million last summer, Kim’s first season there has been uneventful.
The South Korean defender played a key role in Napoli’s Serie A championship-winning side the previous season.
