I’ve No Criminal Record – Miyetti Allah President Tells Court
The detained President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo, asserted before a Federal High Court in Abuja that he has no criminal record. Bodejo, who is facing charges related to alleged involvement in an armed militia detrimental to national unity, filed a motion seeking bail on liberal terms, citing his deteriorating health while in custody. He argued that the charges against him were bailable offenses and emphasized his presumption of innocence until proven guilty. However, the prosecution countered, alleging Bodejo’s involvement in terrorism-related activities, including the establishment of an ethnic militia and support for acts prejudicial to national security. The court ordered Bodejo’s remand in the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) custody and scheduled an accelerated trial.
FG Increases Electricity Tariff
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has approved an increase in electricity tariffs for customers classified under Band A. NERC’s Vice Chairman, Musliu Oseni, announced the approval during a press briefing in Abuja, revealing that customers in this category will now pay N225 per kilowatt-hour, up from the current N66. Band A customers typically receive 20 hours of electricity supply daily and represent 15 percent of the country’s 12 million electricity customers. Oseni mentioned that some customers previously classified under Band A have been downgraded to Band B due to non-compliance with the required hours of electricity provision by distribution companies. The tariff review will not affect customers in other bands.
Impeachment: Shuaibu Says Panel Sitting Against Court Order
The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr. Philip Shaibu, urged the seven-member investigative panel tasked with his planned impeachment to respect an interlocutory injunction issued by a Federal High Court in Abuja. Shaibu, represented by his lawyer, Prof. Oladoyin Awoyale, SAN, argued that proceeding with the panel’s investigation would violate the court order, as further hearing had been adjourned to April 8. Meanwhile, counsel to the House of Assembly and Deputy Clerk, Legal Department, Joe Oaifi, asserted that the panel’s sitting was supported by the constitution, which prohibits courts from obstructing the House of Assembly’s constitutional duties. The panel, led by retired Justice S. A. Omonuwa, was constituted by the State Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, to investigate allegations of misconduct against Shaibu by the Edo State House of Assembly. Additionally, a federal high court in Abuja refused to grant Shaibu’s application for interim injunction, directing the defendants to maintain the status quo pending the substantive suit’s hearing. The matter was adjourned to April 15 for further proceedings.

A windstorm in Agbashi community, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, led to one fatality, several injuries, and the destruction of over 150 houses. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday evening, left many residents homeless, with residential houses, churches, mosques, and schools among the structures affected. Vice Chairman of Doma LGA, John Bako Ari, confirmed the devastation, while Acting Chairman of Agbashi Development Association, Anthony Oshinyeka, called for urgent intervention from both state and federal governments to assist the affected community.
