Ramadan: Veteran Kannywood actress Saratu Daso dies while fasting

A veteran Kannywood actress Saratu Gidado, popularly known as Daso, is dead.

A local radio station in Kano State, announced that the popular actress died in her sleep.

Her family members explained that the actress failed to wake up on Tuesday morning, after the midnight meal before the commencement of the day’s Ramadan fast, Sahur.

Daso, until her death, was a prominent figure in the Hausa film industry for over 18 years.

BREAKING: Kano court fixes April 17 for Ganduje, wife, son’s arraignment

A Kano State High Court, has fixed April 17, 2024, for the arraignment of the immediate past governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje, his wife, son, and five others, for alleged bribery.

Ganduje and the others will be arraigned on eight counts bordering on a $413,000 bribery allegation, diversion, and misappropriation of funds to the tune of N1.38bn, among others.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that the Federal High Court in Kano, ruled that the Kano Public Compliant and Anti-Corruption Commission, lacks the power to investigate Ganduje over an alleged $5m bribery video.

Justice Abdullahi Liman, while delivering his judgment, said the offence was a federal offence that could be prosecuted by the Attorney General of the Federation and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Kano gov appoints nine more special advisers

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, has approved the appointments of additional special advisers alongside other heads of government agencies.

According to a press statement on Tuesday, by the governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Tofa, those appointed include Prof. Ibrahim Barde, Special Adviser, Internally Generated Revenue (IGR); Dr. Abdulhamid Danladi, Special Adviser on Diaspora II; Bello Kiru, Special Adviser on Water Resources; and Yusuf Shuaibu Imam (Ogan Boye), who was reappointed as Special Adviser on Youths and Sports

Others are Dr. Nura Shanono, who was moved from Special Adviser Water Resources to Managing Director, Water Resources Engineering and Construction Agency (WRECA) and Baba Umar, who has been moved from Special Adviser to Executive Secretary, Private and Voluntary Institutions Management Board.

NLC sacks Abure-led Labour Party leadership

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has voided the return of the National Chairman of Labour Party, Julius Abure, and his National Working Committee at a national convention recently held in Nnewi, Anambra State.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the NLC Political Commission Stakeholders meeting in Abuja, the Congress passed a vote of no confidence on the purported convention and the leadership that emerged from it.

The communiqué, made available to newsmen in Abuja, was signed by Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, Chairman, NLC Political Commission; Mr Abdulwahed Omar, former President, NLC; Mr S.O.Z. Ejiofor, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Labour Party, among others.

According to the communiqué, the NLC approved the constitution of a Transition Committee under the leadership of the NLC Political Commission to manage the affairs of the party in the interim.
