Updated: Nollywood actor, Junior Pope is dead
Nollywood actor Junior Pope Odonwodo, known as Jnr Pope, has died while filming in Asaba, Delta State. The boat capsized, and he and two other actors drowned. His body was recovered and rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
The death is the latest in a string of tragedies in Nollywood this year, following the deaths of ace thespians like Mr. Ibu and Sisi Quadri. Other notable deaths include Deji Aderemi, known as Olofa Ina, and Ethel Ekpe, known for her role as ‘Segi’ on the sitcom ‘Basi and Company’.
Drunk driver kills two in Ogun
A drunk truck driver in Ogun State killed a bus driver and his motor boy on the spot when they collided with a bus on the Ota-Idiroko expressway. The incident occurred at the Castinjo/Ola bus stop. The driver was speeding and lost control of the wheels, ramming into the bus heading towards Ota. The bus driver and motorboy were killed on the spot. The wreckage of the bus has been cleared, and the bodies have been deposited at Ifo General Hospital Morgue.
Ondo Amotekun nabs 14 suspected kidnappers, 31 others
The Amotekun Corps in Ondo State has paraded 45 suspected criminals across 18 local government areas. The suspects, including 14 kidnappers, one dangerous driver, five burglars, two anti-grazing offenders, and five individuals arrested for theft and stolen goods, were presented at the corps’ headquarters in Akure. The state Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, stated that the suspects would face the full force of the law for their crimes. The corps is still looking for their sponsor and reassuring the people that there is no hiding place for criminals in Ondo State.
Coastal highway: Fed Govt can’t be intimidated, says Umahi
Works Minister Dave Umahi has defended the Federal Government’s right of way over the Lagos-Calabar highway project, stating that the government owns the right of way of the nation’s coastal roads. The project, approved by the Federal Executive Council, will be completed in sections, with Section One of Phase One being from Ahmadu Bello Way on Victoria Island to Lekki Phase 1, being undertaken by Hitech Construction Company.
The 700-kilometre project will lead to several demolitions along the coastline, including the demolition of Landmark Group’s Beach Resort. The Lagos State government issued a seven-day evacuation and demolition notice to Landmark Group’s CEO, Paul Onwuanibe, to make way for the coastal highway. Umahi questioned the right of occupancy for the firm and argued that the Federal Government owns the shoreline up to 250 meters of the ocean. Onwuanibe urged the Federal Government to revert the coastline road’s development to its original alignment before rerouting it to the Landmark beachside path.
