Slain Soldiers: Mixed Reactions As Photos Of Okuama Residents Living In The Forest Surface Online

Amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the killing of 17 soldiers in Okuama community, Delta State, on March 14, images depicting residents residing in the forest have emerged online. The tragic incident occurred during a peacekeeping mission, resulting in the deaths of the Commanding Officer of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, two majors, one captain, and 13 other soldiers.

Following the ambush, community members alleged reprisal attacks, claiming casualties and property damage. Reports surfaced of residents, including women and children, seeking refuge in the forest without access to basic necessities like food and water.

The Nigerian Army identified Endurance Amagbein as the suspected mastermind behind the soldiers’ killings, intensifying efforts to apprehend the perpetrators. Meanwhile, residents remain hidden in the forest as the search for the assailants continues.

Calls have emerged urging the Nigerian Army to facilitate access to the community for humanitarian aid distribution to alleviate the reported hunger and starvation among the displaced residents.
