Peter Obi told us to make wider consultations, the question is, who are you consulting?- Ahanotu

That national youth leader of the Labour Party, Kennedy Ahanotu has confirmed that the 2023 presidential candidate of the party, Peter Obi, held a meeting with them and told them of the need to make wider consultations before organising a national convention. Ahanotu however said Obi didn’t give them an answer when he was asked who should be consulted.

It should be recalled that Obi had said one of the reasons why he didn’t attend the party’s national convention was because wider consultations were not made.

Speaking in an interview on Channels TV, Kennedy Ahanotu said, “He (Peter Obi) said during our meeting with him that he would have preferred that the party push forward the convention and go into wider consultations. And the question is, who are you consulting? which he didn’t answer.

Are you consulting big tent or stakeholders of the party? You consult the structures, the party organs. There is NEC, there is NWC, there is SEC, these are the structures of the party that must be consulted before you do anything as a party. And this whole structures were consulted. At the convention venue, we had the deputy Governor there, we had the speaker of the state house of assembly, the deputy speaker was there, we had the deputy minority chief whip of the House of Representatives with about 15 House of Reps members. And we had many of the state assembly elected members of the Labour Party, we had all the NEC members present, we had all the NWC members present.”
