One of the most dreaded forest across Igbo land is the Okija forest.
This Forest is dreaded for housing one of the most powerful shrine.
The Okija shrine, sometimes referred to as Ogwugwu is said to be very powerful and deals with offenders without any iota of pity.
The shrine has the ability to drag someone from outside the country back home.
Such persons just starts feeling restless until he or she flies back home.
It is a common belief that the Okija shrine does not hurt anyone whose hands are clean and certainly doesn’t spare the guilty.
The shrine, usually k.ills offenders.
Anyone who d.ies from the wrath of the shrine, is said to belong to the shrine.
Their people must submit their body to the shrine and everything they own would belong to the shrine.
Stub.born families who went ahead to bury their loved ones in the past were visited by mysterious dea.ths.
The Okija shrine would go miles in making sure such family is wiped out unless they pay their debt.
But it is important to note that the shrine does not forgive.
At this juncture, you may be wondering what deity possess this shrine.
She is the goddess of Urasil river which springs from Owerri to Onitsha.
According to the Ezemmuo in charge of her shrine,
If a person is bringing charms to hu. rt an Okija man/woman, immediately they pass over the river, the charm will become powerless.
Ogwugwu is the goddess of justice and retaliation. She ha.tes lies, bribery and does not forgive.
Even her servants dreads her because she does not spare them if her rules are broken.
She choose her priests and servants,
Anyone who dares refuse her offer is faced with dea.th.
Whatever mistake you make in this life, make sure no one reports you to the shrine, especially when you are guilty, okwa maka ndu gi!
