Ohanaeze to FG: Investigate Ijebu Ode luxury bus attack

The Igbo apex body, Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide, has reacted to the recent attack on a commercial luxurious bus along Ijebuode, Shagamu Lagos road where the bus was allegedly set ablaze by hoodlums

According to an official statement issued in Owerri Thursday by the SA on media to the President General of the organization, Chief Dr, Engr Emmanuel C Iwuanyanwu Mr Ben Osuagwu , the Organization urges the Federal Government of Nigeria to thoroughly investigate the incident and take necessary action

The statement said, ” Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has called on the Federal Government to institute a full scale thorough investigations into the Ijebuode luxurious bus attack”

It revealed that, ” 59 Igbos travelling home to Ebonyi State from Lagos for the Easter celebrations nearly lost their lives on Friday, March 29 when the attack took place”

The Igbo Apex body believed that the dastardly act was an attempt of mass extermination of Igbos pointing out that from the reports received, the terrorists stopped the bus, dispossessed all the 59 passengers in the bus of their belongings, stripped them naked and forced them back in to the vehicle, poured petrol on the bus and set it ablaze for them to perish in it.

The statement went further to say that it was divine providential intervention from the prayers and invocation of the spirit of Easter by the passengers that saved the passengers

Chief Iwuanyanwu according to the statement, said that it was through the intervention of God that the 59 passengers were able to smash the glasses of the bus and miraculously escaped .

” He expressed gratitude to God that apart from injuries they sustained, no life was lost.” it added

Chief Iwuanyanwu the statement said however recalled that at the retreat of Igbo Leaders held at the Old Government House Enugu on Wednesday, March 27,he advised Igbos that at this time, it was important to reconcile with God adding that the ugly incident on Ijebuode – Benin road is one of the miracles that showed how God loves them – the Igbos.

Chief Iwuanyanwu said that he has been assured by the Security Agencies that they are on top of the situation and that the culprits will be apprehended and brought to book according to the laws of the land.

He also said that he has equally commissioned some of the Security Experts to investigate the matter and report back to him.
According to Chief Iwuanyanwu, such a heinous crime should not be treated lightly because if left, it will escalate. From the report, nobody was kidnapped. The sole objective was to burn the 59 passengers to death.
