The LA Lakers’ thrilling 116-104 victory over the OKC Thunder on Monday night provides an intriguing glimpse into the team’s chances of winning the title this year. In an interview with ESPN’s “First Take,” Stephen A. Smith expressed his unwavering belief that the Lakers will not emerge from the Western Conference when facing off against other top teams.
Smith is still not thrilled with the team’s performance even though they have won several noteworthy games this season, particularly against the LA Clippers. He did concede, though, that the Lakers should not be underestimated since they can win a few games during the postseason.

He continued: “How am I expected to think of you a serious threat when the reigning defending NBA champions constantly abuses you at every turn?” Stephen A. Smith inquired. “When I watch the Lakers, I can’t help but think, ‘Yo, they can ball.’” I understand. The Denver Nuggets are too strong for them. Their kryptonite is that. That seems like the standard to use.”
The purple and gold team was defeated 3-0 in the season series against the Denver Nuggets this year. Even though their games were tight at times, the Nuggets consistently managed to put together pivotal and opportune plays to win.
Even with a few strong performances, the defending champs will ultimately face LA if they hope to emerge from the Western Conference and make it to the NBA Finals in 2024. To have any chance of pulling off an unexpected series victory, the Lakers will need to play nearly flawlessly when they play Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic in the postseason.
