With that being said, we have taken a look at the most prolific individuals in a single Premier League season, inspired by a record-breaking arrival in the summer of 2022 which has pushed the bar further than any other striker the league has ever seen – Manchester City’s Erling Haaland. 10 Thierry Henry

2003/2004 – 30 goals

Kickstarting the list, Arsenal’s performance in the 2003/2004 season was spectacular. They went the entire season unbeaten to claim Premier League glory and a spectacular golden trophy. It has never been replicated — and Henry played a major part in it. He scored 30 goals in 37 matches to squeeze onto this list. The Frenchman’s pace, power and agility made him almost impossible to play against as he battled with defenders week in and week out. Alongside the likes of Robert Pires, Henry was one of the best players in the world as he celebrated a remarkable triumph.

9 Kevin Phillips

1999/2000 – 30 goals

Moving on, Kevin Phillips also scored 30 goals in a season, although his feat came for a far less impressive team in the form of Sunderland – during one of the best debut seasons. The side based in the North East finished seventh, despite Phillips’ 30 goals. It’s the lowest position for any player on this list, which only makes his record even more impressive. His record included one hat-trick against Derby and three goals against bitter rivals Newcastle over the course of the season. It’s unlikely a Sunderland striker will ever get close to his record in the Premier League. However, his 30 goals is only enough for ninth on this list.

8 Luis Suarez

2013/2014 – 31 goals

Suarez was one of the most feared strikers in the world during his spell at Anfield. He was almost unstoppable as he glided around defenders in the final third. The Uruguayan’s ability to dictate matches with a kick of a football was remarkable — and it led to him scoring 31 goals during the 2013/2014 season. Liverpool finished second that season, spectacularly slipping up to Man City at the end of the season, but that shouldn’t take away from Suarez’s form. Clubs feared Suarez, particularly Norwich, as he dominated matches alongside Daniel Sturridge. His form earned him a move to Barcelona in the following summer.

7 Cristiano Ronaldo

2007/2008 – 31 goals

Cristiano Ronaldo dominated football with Man United, Real Madrid and Juventus throughout his career. Many widely regard him as the ‘Greatest of all time’, but that’s for another time. His first spell in Manchester saw him win the Premier League and Champions League in 2008, partially due to his remarkable feat of goalscoring. Under Sir Alex Ferguson’s guidance, Ronaldo scored 31 goals in 34 matches to help Man Utd finish top of the table. Playing from the right flank, he consistently cut in and tormented full-backs and centre-backs. He got the Old Trafford crowd up on their feet — and they will never forget him.

6 Alan Shearer

1995/1996 – 31 goals

Moreover, Alan Shearer is the Premier League’s record goalscorer, ahead of the likes of Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane. He features on this list three times and his first spell of spectacular form on this list came in the 1995/1996 season. He scored 31 goals in 35 matches as Blackburn finished seventh, several places lower than previous years. Despite the club’s struggles, he still sent fear into opponents who understood that he couldn’t be given any space. Otherwise, he would score. He eventually moved to Newcastle in the summer of 2026, leaving Blackburn for his boyhood club.

5 Alan Shearer

1993/1994 – 31 goals

Shearer’s second impressive feat on this list came two years earlier. The Englishman was finally being considered one of the best strikers in the world in the 1993/1994 season as he scored 31 goals in 40 matches. It helped Blackburn finish second and qualify for European football. His ability to hold up the ball, overpower defenders and send fear into the opposition was remarkable. Alongside his goals, he even registered four assists, highlighting how Shearer was a team player just as much as an individual. The striker was just at the start of his career — and no one could predict what would happen in the coming season.

4 Mohamed Salah

2017/2018 – 32 goals

Moving into the 21st century, Mohamed Salah broke back into the Premier League after joining Liverpool from Roma in 2017. In his first season at Anfield, he scored 32 goals in 36 matches to help Liverpool finish fourth. On the face of it, the Reds struggled, but they also reached the Champions League final and that was partially due to Salah’s spectacular performances. He scored countless world-class goals, including a stunning solo goal in the final minute against Tottenham Hotspur. That epitomised Salah’s ability, as his 32 goals and 11 assists birthed new life into Jurgen Klopp’s team.

3 Alan Shearer

1994/1995 – 34 goals

For the final time, Shearer features on this list. His ability to even be included three times on this list speaks volumes of his world-class nature over the course of his year, yet it was his performances in the 1994/1995 season which were most impressive. Shearer scored 34 goals in 42 matches to help Blackburn finish top of the Premier League in remarkable circumstances. Just like the season before, Shearer was unstoppable in front of goal, even registering 13 assists alongside his tally. The final day scenes at Anfield live long in the memory of Blackburn fans, and although they lost 2-1, despite a Shearer goal, they still won the title due to Man United’s struggles against West Ham.

2 Andy Cole

1993/1994 – 34 goals

Andy Cole is one of the most underrated strikers of all time. His ability with Man United was phenomenal, even winning the treble with them in 1999. However, it was his shorter spell at Newcastle which takes the plaudits this time around. Cole scored 34 goals in the 1993/1994 season to help Newcastle finish third. The 22-year-old at the time was spectacular in front of goal, providing Newcastle with confidence in the final third. Alongside his 34 goals, he even registered 13 assists, proving his importance to Newcastle wasn’t just due to his finishing in front of goal. He held the record until the 2022/2023 season, when a young and thriving Norwegian arrived into town.

1 Erling Haaland

2022/2023 – 36 goals

Last, but not least, the Norwegian in question was Erling Haaland. Manchester City’s world-class striker scored 36 goals during the 2022/2023 season to help the club win the treble, leading to incredible scenes in the north. His importance to the team was questioned throughout, with some even hinting he made them worse. However, Haaland made everyone take back those words with a string of world-class performances across the season. His robotic-like nature in the final third was remarkable, whilst he created a formidable partnership with Kevin De Bruyne to help Pep Guardiola’s side pip Arsenal to Premier League glory. He was the best striker in the world, even if he didn’t win the Ballon d’Or.
