Sreeja Akula is a renowned Indian table tennis player who got the limelight in 2022 when she won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

After winning the gold title she mentioned her elder sister and said when she was young she watched her sister participate in table tennis championships and win them and that she decided to pursue a career in table tennis.

Sreeja Akula competed for the first time in 2013 at the Junior and Youth National Table Tennis Championships, where she bagged a silver medal.

She also participated in the National Ranking Championship in 2018 and got the title at New Delhi. Sreeja won the youth title by defeating Saleendeepthi and was the score 4-2.

She also got a job by the sports quota in the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and also represented the RBI in multiple national-level competitions.

She showed her skills in double also when she participated in the 80th Senior National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championship and won the title with Nikhat Banu.

In 2019, Sreeja Akula competed in the National Ranking (West Zone) Table Tennis Championships at Thane.

In 2020, she clinched a bronze medal at the UTT 82nd Cadet & Sub-Junior National Table Tennis Championships, organized by the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI).

The following year, in 2021, Sreeja secured another bronze medal, this time in the women’s doubles event at the World Table Tennis Championship held in Doha, Qatar.

Her winning streak continued in April 2022 when she emerged victorious at the 83rd Senior National Table Tennis Championship. Sreeja’s triumph marked a significant milestone as she became the second table tennis player from Telangana to claim a national title.

She also made history by clinching two gold medals at the inaugural Women’s National Table Tennis Championship held in Telangana.

Although she faced a setback at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where she narrowly lost to Australian paddler Yangzi Liu in the women’s singles event, Sreeja bounced back triumphantly later that year.

Alongside Achanta Sharath Kamal, she secured a gold medal in the mixed doubles event, defeating their Malaysian opponents.

Sreeja’s international success reached new heights in January 2024 when she clinched the women’s singles title at the WTT Feeder Corpus Christi in Texas, USA.

This victory marked her first international title, showcasing her talent and determination on the global stage.
