LASG Announces Plans To Add More Electric Buses To The BRT Fleet - autojosh

Lagos State Government announces plans to add more eco-friendly Electric Buses to the current BRT fleet. 

LASG through LBSL had on May 1st 2023 began the Electric Bus Pilot Program for passenger operations in the State. 

Proof-of-concept phase aimed to demonstrate electric bus technology, evaluate its economic and environmental benefits. 

For the pilot scheme, two electric buses, marked with EV 01 and EV 02, were brought in by Oando Clean energy Limited (OCEL).

Each of these electric buses will go 280km at full charge – which exceeds an average daily usage of 200km from existing diesel-powered BRTs.

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to add more eco-friendly Electric Buses to the current BRT fleet, nearly a year since LASG-Oando began the Electric Bus Pilot Program for passenger operations in the State.

Jubril Gawat, a Senior Special Assistant on News Media to the Governor, made this known in a tweet posted to his X handle on Monday, 8th April 2024.

He wrote :

“I remember when we introduced them (1st May 2023) and so many people said it will breakdown on 3rd Mainland Bridge. It will be a year by next month and it has been a huge success story so far.”

Gawat said this while responding to a user, Sesede, who praised the State Government for the more comfort ride offered by the eco-friendly and battery-powered electric buses.

Sesede, a travel enthusiast, wrote :

“These Electric brt lasg gave us are so chilled and comfy. I almost never want to come down ”
