….Warns against jungle justice
Keana Local Government Council, Nasarawa State, has vowed to prosecute killers of unspecified number of farmers in the local government area to serve as deterrence to other criminals in the area.
Chairman of the council, Sanusi Abdul Giza, made the vow at an emergency meeting with security personnel, traditional rulers, other critical stakeholders and representatives of all the ethnic groups of Kadarko Chiefdom in the palace of Osokadarko yesterday.
He said the council would live no stone unturned to ensure that the killers of the Innocent farmers, who were recently attacked in their farms, were arrested and prosecuted.
He described the killing of the farmers as most unfortunate, condemnable, unacceptable and not to be cordoned by his administration.
While vowing to fish out the killers, the LG boss said it becomes necessary to address the security challenges bedeviling the area.
Empathizing with members of the families affected by the criminal act, Giza warned residents not to take the laws into their hands by seeking self-vengeance but asked them to allow government handle the situation.“”All the ethnic groups in the area must live in peace with one another and shun mischief makers looking for opportunities to cause mayhem.
”The local government, along with security agencies, are working out modalities to fish out the bad elements in the locality, ” the council boss stated.“On their parts, the Senior Special Assistant and SA to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Universal Basic Education and Political, Comrade James Ali Manza, and Ibrahim Bido expressed concern over the ugly incident, assuring that the state government would not tolerate any act capable of causing disaffection in the state.
In his remarks, the paramount ruler of Kadarko, the Osokadarko, Mallam Usman Kakunu Dodo, described claims by a particular ethnic group alleging land grabbing as pure mischief.
He explained that the land in question, which had not been cultivated for ages and had turned into a hideout for kidnappers and other criminal elements, was taken over by his chiefdom and Keana LGA, a portion of which was allocated to farmers of different ethnic groups living the area to cultivate after due process.
