In 2013, a river that was last seen since 1972 sprang out in Nachi, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu state.
According to the story, it was Fulani herds men who first noticed the strange occurrence.
The herdsmen who are renowned for taking their cattle into the bush to find green pastures had just crossed over to the other side when they had a strange rumbling sound from behind.
They continued their walk.
When they returned back to the spot, they were surprised to see that the once dry land was now water-logged.
They went into the village to tell the villagers what they had seen.
The older men attested to have witnessed the mysterious river once in the past.
When the news of the mysterious river was broadcasted,
Many people who have heard the story of the river in their village folk tales, came to see for themselves.
Soon, the river attracted more people as visitors who came to see it got healed of their ailments after having contact with it.
Many sick people were brought to the river and many of them received their healings.
Many people left their clutches and wheelchairs as they had no more need for them.
People travelled from all over the Igbo states to touch the water.
The river was called ‘Mmiri Betsida’
The river dried up soon after six months.
Since then, that spot has remained a dry land with no trace of the stagnant river.
There are still beliefs that the river will appear again in the next 30 to 40 years.
