Igbo Have Been Asking For More State From Southeast, It’s Difficult For Nigeria To Grant It- Kalu

In a report by Vanguard, Elder Ibe Njoku Kalu, a respected figure with experience as a deputy managing director of Champion Newspapers and a university teacher, highlighted a longstanding issue faced by the Igbo community. He noted the challenge in obtaining an additional state in the Southeast, despite their persistent requests. Kalu contrasted the vast land available in the North for creating local governments with the densely populated living conditions in southern communities like Akanu Ohafia. This disparity underscores the unique challenges faced by different regions in Nigeria.

Kalu said, “The Igbo have been asking for an additional state out of the Southeast, and it has been difficult for Nigeria to grant it. When one goes to the north, there is huge land mass to create local governments and not human mass, but here in the south, see how we live in our Akanu Ohafia communities, roof to roof. In the North, one sees a thatched house here and travels 50 kilometers before seeing another.”
