Renowned actor and filmmaker Ugezu Ugezu has spoken out about the recent spate of deaths within the Nigerian movie industry, commonly known as Nollywood. This comes after several actors, including Mr. Ibu, Amaechi Muonagor, Sisi Quadri, Adejumoke Aderounmu, and most recently, Junior Pope, passed away in the first quarter of 2024, sparking concerns among fans and industry observers.

Reacting to these unfortunate events, Ugezu took to his Instagram page to address the public’s perception and shed light on the broader context of mortality in various professions across Nigeria.

Daily Post reported that in his post, Ugezu highlighted the systemic challenges facing the country’s health sector, attributing the surge in deaths to what he described as the “systematic destruction” of healthcare infrastructure. He drew parallels with other professions, such as banking, law enforcement, and religious leadership, where individuals also face mortality regularly but may not receive the same public attention.

“If only you knew how many bankers who pass away every week…if only you knew how many police officers who pass away every month…if only you knew how many pastors/priests who pass away every month…if only we have clear data on citizens that pass away monthly, we may settle down and understand the systematic destruction of the health sector,” Ugezu wrote in his Instagram post.
