IDEMILI, THE RIVER GODDESS OF IDEMILI PEOPLE.

Idemili is the goddess of the Idemili people of Anambra state.

Idemmili means “PILLAR OF WATER”, in other words, one who holds the authority over the water.

She is also the goddess of the python.

In Idemili, it is forbidden to kill a python.

If anyone mistakenly kills a python, he or she must bury the python as one would bury a prominent chief.

Unlike other places, the pythons in Idemili are not harmful at all.

Strangers are often advised not to ask for a pillow at night, lest they wake up with a python crawling under their head like a pillow.

Idemmili deity has a phyton and that python is the messenger of the idemmili deity,

It’s do bite if one offend the deity and nobody can cure it except through spiritual attention because it’s has a reason for the bite, but if it mistakingly bite someone it will hiss and collect it poison back because it doesn’t look for trouble but don’t look for it’s trouble

If someone kill or hurt it the person must do the traditional rite of burying the phyton and other necessary traditional cleansing to appease the land and the idemmili deity.
