Hushpuppi’s Early Life And Biography

Ramon Olorunwa Abbas is the full and real name of Hushpuppi who is also known as Hush or Ray Hushpuppi. According to the available information, he was born on October 11, 1982. He was born and raised in Lagos State Nigeria.

Hushpuppi was born into a Muslim family from the Yoruba tribe at the south western part of Nigeria.

Both his primary and secondary school education took place in Lagos State Nigeria where he was born.

Hushpuppi was born into a poor family, and according to him, may have suffered a lot growing up. Hushpuppi sold second-hand clothes in Lagos before he relocated to Malaysia.

After a moment in Malaysia, Hushpuppi moved to Dubai and lived a luxurious lifestyle there until the time of his arrest.

Hushpuppi became so popular on several social media platforms especially on Instagram because of his extravagant lifestyle, he was always flaunting his designer clothes, shoes and cars on Instagram.

Hushpuppi usually wears designer brands such as D&G, Fendi, Nikki, Gucci and others. He accused several Nigerian celebrities of wearing fake clothes that caused feuds between him and numerous Nigerian music artists and actors on social media platforms especially on Instagram.

In 2017, one song ‘Telli Person’ by Nigerian singer Timaya featuring popular Nigerian rappers, Olamide and Phyno, with whom he had a long-running feud.

According to the song’s lyrics, it was  directed at Hushpuppi accusing him of being a fraudster and a swindler.

Likewise, the song by Timaya picks a point about his extravagance in clothes, instead of investing his money in business. Timaya said if he continued like this, he would soon be arrested by authorities in the song.

Hushpuppi’s Career

According to him, he sold second-hand clothes in Lagos before he relocated to Malaysia.

Hushpuppi is an Instagram celebrity and a scammer. Also known for business email compromise, scam, and money laundering.

He is currently serving 11 years jail time in the United States.

Hushpuppi’s Case

Hushpuppi’s story changed immediately when he relocated to Malaysia, there have been speculations about how he morphed from rags to riches within a very short time. According to him, he makes his money from forex, real estate and other high profit investments.

Unfortunately, his source of wealth was revealed immediately after Hushpuppi was arrested by Interpol in Dubai for alleged cybercrime in June 2020.

Hushpuppi was extradited to the United States, he is facing criminal charges for conspiracy to launder money obtained from business email compromise frauds and including scams, with schemes that defrauded a U.S. law firm of about $40M, illegally transferred $14.7M from one foreign financial institution, targeted to steal $124M from an English football club.

According to the FBI, Hushpuppi, with others, defrauded one New York-based law firm out of approximately $922,857 in October 2019.

When he was arrested in Dubai, detectives found over 150 million dirham (about $40 million) in cash, 13 luxury cars worth Dh 25 million ($7M), 21 laptops, 47 smartphones, 15 memory storage devices, 5 external hard drives and 800,000 emails of potential victims with suitcases full of cash.

According to the available information, Hushpuppi pleaded guilty to money laundering on the 28th of July, 2021.
