According to a report on DAILY POST, gunmen targeted a police checkpoint situated along the Abakaliki-Enugu Highway near the Ishieke Junction on the outskirts of Abakaliki metropolis in Ebonyi State.
The assailants, whose identities remain unknown, launched a violent assault that resulted in the tragic death of one police officer and the reported abduction of another.
Eyewitnesses in the area recounted a scene of chaos as the gunmen opened fire on the police checkpoint, subsequently setting ablaze a police patrol van stationed at the location.
While details regarding the exact circumstances of the attack remain unclear, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, has confirmed the occurrence of the assault.
However, DSP Ukandu indicated that comprehensive information about casualties and the status of abducted officers is currently limited, as authorities are actively gathering facts about the incident.
“An incident happened this morning, but I am still trying to put the details.
“At this point, I can’t confirm much. Let me get my facts right.
“I just got information that there was an attack at that point, but I don’t have any other information,” DSP Ukandu stated.
