Gunmen Abduct Rivers State Governorship Candidate, Kill Two.

Gunmen reportedly dressed in military uniform abducted Sobomabo Jackrich, the Rivers State governorship candidate of the National Rescue Movement in the 2023 general election, from his residence in Usokun, Degema Local Government Area.

The incident occurred around 3 am on Monday,

According to Punch, the incident led to the fatal shooting of two of Jackrich’s loyalists, whose bodies were taken by the assailants.

Jackrich, widely known as ‘Egberipapa,’ had previously been a militant leader who later embraced amnesty during the tenure of late President Umar Yar’Adua.

His media aide, Soibibo Sokari, confirmed the abduction and killings, expressing uncertainty about the perpetrators while promising to provide more details as they emerge.

While an anonymous source claimed it was the military that conducted the operation, efforts to reach the military’s spokesperson proved unsuccessful.

However, the state police command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, refuted claims of kidnapping, stating that Jackrich is currently in the custody of security personnel.

The conflicting reports raise questions about the circumstances surrounding Jackrich’s abduction, with speculations swirling about the involvement of security forces.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities seek to unravel the full extent of the situation.
