Edo: Shaibu has messed up his political future – PDP chieftain, Okai

According to reports from DAILY POST, Usman Okai Austin, the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Youth Frontier, has voiced strong criticism against Philip Shaibu, the former deputy governor of Edo State, following Shaibu’s impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly.

Okai has warned that Shaibu’s political future has been jeopardized due to misguided actions and miscalculations.

In an exclusive statement to DAILY POST, Okai asserted that Shaibu was ill-advised or possibly overestimated his political influence by attempting to position himself to succeed Governor Obaseki.

According to Okai, Shaibu should have respected the established power rotation dynamics within Edo State politics, which he claimed Shaibu was familiar with given his background as a former state assembly member, House of Representatives member, and deputy governor.

Okai emphasized that Edo’s power rotation traditionally involves a shift among the regions—Edo North, Edo South, and Edo Central.

He explained that after eight years of governance from Edo North (under Oshiomhole), power transitioned to Edo South (under Obaseki), and it is now expected to return to Edo Central.

Shaibu, who hails from Edo North, allegedly sought to disrupt this rotation to his advantage, disregarding the zoning arrangement in place.

Okai further criticized Shaibu’s decision to contest against the zoning arrangement, suggesting that his actions have estranged him from both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party in Edo State.

He claimed that Shaibu’s impeachment has left him without the benefits typically accorded to former deputy governors and has significantly compromised his political prospects.
