Edo, Ondo Guber: PDP NWC meets Senate caucus, others

The Ambassador Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has held a consultative meeting with the Senate caucus of the party.

The meeting which was held behind closed doors within the Senate building, in Abuja, on Tuesday, was aimed at building a consensus on what the party’s position should be on issues of national interest.

It was gathered that the party leadership received briefing from the Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, on issues relating to the legislative agenda of the caucus as well as its approach to playing its role as the main opposition party in the Senate.

Vanguard gathered that party leadership sort the input of the legislators on the planned repositioning of the party as well as how best to approach the forth coming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States.

It was not immediately clear if the travails of suspended Senator Abdul Ningi was discussed extensively but it was gathered that the party stood by its decision to rally support for him in pursuit of the desire to hold the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration to account.

A source privy to the meeting said, “The party leadership for support from our legislators in our quest to push for electoral reforms especially in the area of ensuring that the electronic transfer of election results is given legislative backing to boost our chances in forth coming elections.”

The NWC equally met with the Edo State Deputy Governorship Candidate of the party, Osarodion Ogie, as part of its consultations to ensure smooth campaigns and electioneering in the state.

When contacted, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, confirmed both meetings describing them as retuine.

In response to the meeting with the Senate caucus, Ologunagba said, “It is true we met with our Senate caucus earlier today. It is a retuine meeting which is part of our engagement and collaboration with our members.

“Don’t forget, we’ve met with other caucuses of our party, we’ve been meeting with our governors forum also.

“These meetings are designed for us to synergise in other to work together for the progress of our party and provide a better alternative platform for Nigerians to build a nation of our dreams as a people.

“Only two weeks ago, we met with stakeholders from Ondo State and we are also reaching out to ensure that we win both Edo and Ondo States which we all know are PDP States. Such consultations will continue.”
