Betta Edu Scandal: N30 Billion recovered, 50 bank accounts under investigation – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered a staggering N30 billion in the ongoing investigation of Halima Shehu, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Authority (NSIPA), and suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu.

This information is being revealed at the same time that the anti-graft agency announces the probe of fifty bank accounts, as reported by the Daily Post. Claims of financial misappropriation led President Bola Tinubu to suspend Edu and Shehu almost three months ago. Additionally, Tinubu ordered the EFCC to investigate the personnel in question thoroughly after suspending the Social Investment Programme.

In March’s issue of the EFCC’s electronic magazine, EFCCAlert, Chairman Ola Olukoyede announced these changes. The intricacy of the case and the necessity of following legal procedures were brought to light by his emphasis on the thoroughness of the inquiry.

Even though the probe was only open for a brief time, Olukoyede reassured Nigerians that the agency would not rest until it had successfully combatted corruption. The comprehensive breadth of the probe was highlighted by Olukoyede, who emphasised the scale of the task at hand by highlighting the tracing of monies to over 50 bank accounts.

He acknowledged that investigations of this magnitude take time and asked the public to be patient.
